The BlackBerry 8820 runs a relatively older version of the BlackBerry operating system. This operating system supports relatively few applications. To run Whatsapp messenger on this mobile phone, the user needs to first update its operating system to the most recent version of the BlackBerry operating system. To check for the upgrade of the operating system, click options on the Home screen, then click About. The installation process is self-directing and the mobile device guides the user on the whole process of installing the application. The mobile phone’s low storage memory may not be aptly able to well support the running of the application as the application itself takes about 7 MB of the memory while the application’s files may take up more memory on the mobile.This sometimes causes the mobile device to be sluggish and slow in running.

So it benefits from quite a lot of updates and support from the community of Whatsapp fans. whatsapp blackberryHow to download WhatsApp for BlackBerry

If you own a BlackBerry, and you want to install  Whatsapp on your device, you first must go on ‘ App World for BlackBerry by clicking the ‘home’ button. Once inside the ‘App World’ menu, open the browser and type ‘WhatsApp’. Then click ‘WhatsApp Messenger’ to start download it. After installation you have to follow a “step by step” procedure to activate it and request a verification code to be entered on your phone number. Once received, you can add this code, complete the process of registration and start using WhatsApp to chat with your friends and relatives. The cost of Whatsapp on Blackberry is free for 12 months, then only $1.99 / year.

Whatsapp problems on BlackBerry 8520
Many users have complained about some malfunctioning version of WhatsApp for BlackBerry, in particular on the model 8520 . In some cases Whatsapp deleted all messages and history, causing many inconvenience to all owners of this device.

To correct this problem you must perform the procedure known as’ battery pull ‘, which means that you have to remove the battery, the SIM card and microSD, wait for a few minutes and then reassemble everything back again. If all went well, the above problems will disappear.

Whatsapp problems on BlackBerry Curve 9220
Also the BlackBerry Curve 9220 model had some problems with the message chat history. Many users found themselves in trouble because unable to display important messages from friends and relatives. Unlike the problem explained above (for the BlackBerry 8520) the procedure of ‘battery pull’ does not seem to be effective. However, if in conjunction with this procedure you uninstall and reinstall WhatsApp and you reboot your device, you have a pretty good chance of success. To uninstall the application you have first to go into the settings of the device (apps management).

If you’re a fan of BlackBerry, then the ideal world for you would be one where all the people are using BlackBerry. You can just use BlackBerry Messenger as your SMS alternative. But we are in the real world. People use different brands of phones. You have to use SMS, email, or the good old phone call to communicate with them. And this can be rather costly.

This is where WhatsApp comes in. It is a cross-platform app sporting a compatibility with Apple, Android, Symbian, Windows, and Nokia smartphones. If you have it, all you need to do is to tell your contacts to install it in their phones and you’ll be able to send text messages to them. Whatever smartphone they have, they can likely install this app.The interface of WhatsApp is like a smarter version of the stock SMS function of your phone. Basically, there’s no need for adjustment and even offers improvements over it.

Operating System Requirement
First, if you’d like to try this app, you should know its system requirements. You need to have a BlackBerry OS of 4.6 or greater. For a quick reference, the models that are compatible include the Curve 83XX, 8520, 8900, Bold 9000 and 9700, Pearl 81XX, Tour 9630, and Storm 95XX. The file size is about 300KB.

Lightweight
Compared to other instant messaging apps, this app is more on the light end when it comes to features – pretty much only the basics. But that makes it light on the system as well. Tests put up WhatsApp as the least buggy of its brethren.

Easy to Use
The usability is good on this app. The interface is easy to interact with and the display offers convenience. The message exchanges are threaded like a chat box so you can see the entire conversation with ease. The messages also have indicators. You messages may have up to two checkmarks – one indicates it is received by the server and the other indicates it has been received by the recipient. No one can give you the excuse “I didn’t get your message.”
The Favs feature list allows you to put contacts that you frequently converse with in an easy to access list. This is so that you can quickly go to the contacts whenever you need to message them. It also makes for good organization so you don’t have to browse through a long list of contacts that you don’t usually message anyway.

Step-by-Step guide to Download and Install Whatsapp (through your Browser)

  • First step is to open your default BlackBerry browser. This is essential. You’ll know why later.
  • Go to the app’s official website: www.whatsapp.com.
  • You’ll see the homepage and the descriptions. There will also be the logo of the different smartphone platforms. Since you’re using a BlackBerry, you should be familiar with its logo. Click that.
  • You will be brought to the download page for the BlackBerry version of the app. This page would not be functional unless you are using a default BlackBerry browser.
  • You will then download the latest version of the app. It will be installed automatically. All you need to do is to wait.
  • Once done, open the application and follow the prompts for setting

Unlimited Messaging with No Ads
The messages you can send via WhatsApp is virtually unlimited. It doesn’t post ads as well. But there is an annual subscription fee of $1.99 with a free 30-day trial. But considering what you can save from avoiding SMS fee, this is a good deal.

Alternatives: if paying $1.99 a year is too much for your personal budget, than you could consider installing some good Messaging alternative, like Telegram (which is still free). But, before doing so, I suggest you reading this interesting article: Whatsapp vs Telegram.

New updates for WhatsApp: new Beta versions available for Android (2.12.298) and for BlackBerry 10 Mobile (2.12.167.2)

whatsapp logoWith its 900 million active users (Jan Koum, CEO and co-founder of WhatsApp, has stated that 1 million people a day sign up for WhatsApp’s services), it’s undeniable that the popularity of WhatsApp seems unstoppable. The reasons of this success are many, you well know them, as you also know that you can use the app from several platforms: iOS, Android, BlackBerry 10, Windows Phone or Nokia Symbian. The developers of WhatsApp work very hard to offer a good service and keeps improving the app. Just to give you an example, during the last weekend were released two beta versions: one for the Android platform and the other one for BlackBerry 10 Mobile OS. But how do they work? How can you download them in order to upgrade your device? Let’s see it together.

whatsapp android nuova betaWhatsApp Beta 2.12.298 for Android
Well yes, there is another new APK for Android devices. Since most of the users of WhatsApp access this popular instant messaging app using the Android platform, it is quite obvious that WhatsApp developers pay a particular attention to its improvement. The result is that there are new updates every few days. All those releases often bring just bug fixes, and today’s new APK is no exception. In fact version 2.12.298 doesn’t introduce any new features. Just the installation file is a little bit different, having been reduced from 22.72MB to 19.38MB. Remember that this new Beta 2.12.298 is not a stable version, but just one to be tested, so you can’t download it from the Google Play Store but you will find it on the internet. As usual, to install it on your Android device, you have to go to Settings > Security and enable the Unknown Source. Alternatively, on the Google Play Store you can find the previous version 2.12.297.

Today we have to talk also about WhatsApp for BlackBerry 10, since a new Beta version has been released. This version 2.12.167.2 mainly brings new emojis and translation support. Further more there are the usual bug fixes. As usual, being a Beta, to install this version 2.12.167.2 you have to be a member of the BlackBerry Beta Zone, so don’t look for it on the official app store of BlackBerry.

WhatsApp for BlackBerry 10: version 2.12.163.2 has been released

whatsapp per blackberry last updateA new updated version of WhatsApp for BlackBerry 10 is now available, with new useful features. With this new version 2.12.163.2, together with the usual bug fixes, we can see the improvement of the support for chat actions when using the web client. Furthermore, it has been also introduced the ability to read your Facebook contacts from the system address book.

As always, in order to download this new beta version you must be registered in the BlackBerry Beta Zone.  After you register, you can easily download and use this application for free. So, another step forward for WhatsApp, which during the last few months is trying to keep up with the needs of its many users by adding constantly improvements to its platform.

And although the popularity of this instant messaging service keeps on growing (900 million active monthly users, with a growth of 100 million users only during the past four months), we certainly can not say that WhatsApp is loved and respected by all. Clearly we are referring mainly to its competitors. In fact the market of messaging services is experiencing a particularly lively period, and as well as WhatsApp, many are the companies that offer similar services. And the battle to be the first one in the field seems to be no holds barred.

Just this week, during the TechCrunch Disrupt Conference, we have seen Pavel Durov (Telegram CEO) stating clearly that “WhatsApp sucks”. What prompted Durov to do this harsh statement? That’s what he said: “If you have WhatsApp and your phone goes down, you don’t have access to your messages,” adding also that “You can’t send documents and it’s not private. I’m not sure if I’m a big fan of WhatsApp three years ago, and not so sure now.” These are certainly strong words, which, for now, have not yet been followed by any reply from WhatsApp (that is Mark Zuckerberg, owner of Facebook).

WhatsApp for BlackBerry: more features with the new beta

whatsapp per blackberryAs you surely know, WhatsApp is the most successful instant messaging application. Every day more people install this popular application on their smartphones and now, as a result, it is used by over 900 million people. It seems that WhatsApp is particularly popular among Android users, who really love this app, but, according to recent statistics, it seems that the number of WhatsApp users is growing also with other kind of devices.

Therefore, WhatsApp is available also for BlackBerry phones. WhatsApp for BlackBerry 10 is a free application that lets you chat with your friends and family who use Android smartphones, iPhone and Windows Phone. Furthermore WhatsApp also allows you to send video and audio. In addition you can also use your favourite emoticons, exactly as you already do with BlackBerry Messenger.

WhatsApp is constantly changing, and its developers keep on improving its functions and release regularly the updates they bring to the app. So, it is now available a new beta version 2.12.133.2 for BlackBerry which introduces these features:

  • the ability to report spam when you receive individual messages from unknown contact;
  • you can now message contacts directly from contact card messages;
  • it has been added the “low data usage” setting for voice calls (to use it go to Settings – Media Settings – Call Settings);
  • you are now enabled to use the mute option on all chats (not just groups).

In addition, some bugs has been fixed. But immediately after this beta 2.12.133.2 was released, another new one arrived. It is beta version 2.12.139.2. This new beta version simply fixes some bugs and introduces some updates based on feedback from beta testers.

WhatsApp is available for free download from the BlackBerry Beta Zone. If yuo are not able to see it, you need to launch the BlackBerry Beta Zone and then click on Programs-Eligible. After that you have to sign up clicking on “Join”. At this point, to download the update, you have to close the application and restart it.

WhatsApp for BlackBerry 10: the new beta 2.12.43.2 is now available

whatsapp for blackberry 10WhatsApp is a free instant messaging application for smartphones that allows you to chat with friends, family or colleagues who use Android, iPhone or Windows Phone devices. Currently this successful app is not used just to chat, but also to share instantly music, video and pictures with your contacts, all included in your flat fee. After several updates available mainly for Android users, finally it is now available a new beta for BlackBerry 10.

It seems that this new beta 2.12.43.2 fixes many of the bugs contained in the previous version. So let’s look in detail what changes and which are the improvements that  this new beta provides. Users of BlackBerry 10.3.2 will be surely glad to know that with this new beta WhatsApp is able to read Facebook contacts from the system’s address book. It goes without saying that this is a big improvement, as it solves the problem of the missing contacts.

Between the bugs that have been fixed there is the one concerning the unanswered incoming calls. In fact, so far, if you missed a call the pop-up was not showing it. Furthermore, now BlackBerry users will be happy to know that finally the bug that caused the first message sent in a new conversation to be shown only after a few seconds has been fixed. Since these improvements are currently contained just in the beta version 2.12.43.2, if you want to download this new version, you can do it only from the BlackBerry Beta Zone.

Once you are in BlackBerry Beta Zone, first of all you have to register, then you will be able to download and install WhatsApp 2.12.43.2 Beta version.  After that, you must accept terms and conditions and have your mobile phone number to be verified. After you have your phone number verified, you will be able to enter into your WhatsApp account.

WhatsApp: officially lauched Voice Calling for Blackberry 10

WhatsApp officially lauched Voice Calling for Blackberry 10BlackBerry 10 users have not been forgotten by WhatsApp. In fact, they can now use WhatsApp to make and receive calls. BlackBerry 10 is the third operating system chosen by WhatsApp to enable voice calls, while Windows Phone users still have to wait. After Android and iOS now, finally, it’s BlackBerry’s turn.

WhatsApp has enabled voice calls in the latest version of the app that is compatible with the operating system of the Canadian Company.  The new version of WhatsApp (2.12.1.2), which is downloadable from the digital store BlackBerry World, includes the possibility to call contacts using WhatsApp, without seeing the minutes on your calling plan being scaled; to make your calls will be used the cellular network (2G, 3G, 4G).

Windows Phone users still have to be patient a little bit, but the functionality is expected to arrive soon, maybe in a few days. Strangely, however, priority was given to BlackBerry 10 than Windows Phone, which has greater spread. However it is likely that the update for the BlackBerry has been considered more important, as it introduces a greater number of innovations. Besides Voice Calling, allowing you to use your Internet connection to make free VoIP calls, with version 2.12.1.2 you can now quickly search for messages, chat and contacts, simply touching Search from the menu.

It’s also been improved the font to match better the screen size. You can also find some new options, like “Add to Contacts” for your list of chat and information groups, the choice of custom ringtones for incoming calls, subdirectories for images, audio and video received, and counters to cards Favorites/Groups/Contacts. Moreover, it has been improved the support for BlackBerry Classic. Several unspecified bugs were finally fixed. Users who used the beta version must uninstall it before downloading the final version available on the BlackBerry World.

Any BlackBerry 10 device (Z10, Q10, Q5, Z30, Passport and Classic) supports this feature, which, thanks to the free calls, allows you to save further on the tariff plan. The spread of this platform, which was acquired by Facebook last year, has first caused the decline of text messages, and now also the classical calls may soon fall into disuse.
