Whatsapp for JOLLA SAILFISH

Whatsapp for Jolla SailfishJolla Sailfish is a small smartphone: 131×68 mm, with a thickness of only 9.9 mm and a weight of 149 grams. The screen is an impressive 4.5 “, 16 GB internal memory, MicroSD slot, a processor Qualcomm dual-core 1.4 GHz connectivity with GSM / 3G / 4G LTE. On the surface it would seem a traditional smartphone, but is actually the Jolla Sailfish OS  that makes a big difference.

Jolla accepts unfortunately only one SIM so, you cannot install Whatsapp for Dual Sim, but provides a great reliability with about 10 hours on 3G. The battery can also be replaced without loss of data (if you make the replacement in less than 120 seconds).

Using Whatsapp on your Jolla Sailfish
The phone is offered in minimum configuration; is not installed any app, even the basic ones, so as to allow the user to customize the product that suit him/her. Full compatibility with the immense library Android, including WhatsApp (which we will discuss in this article) makes this phone extremely effective. The smartphone-Jolla Sailfish is designed so that it can be used with one hand. The sensitivity of the screen to the touch is outstanding and, in some cases, even excessive. Jolla ensures that the operating system updates will always be available, overcoming the problems of incompatibility typical of many versions of Android.

Is Whatsapp fully compatible with Jolla Sailfish?
Android applications run directly on Sailfish OS without modification as stated by the Finnish company that created the Jolla Sailfish. For example, the popular apps like Instagram, WhatsApp and Spotify work directly on Sailfish OS. Also, the Chinese WeChat, which has over 400 million users, runs on Sailfish OS, ” said the CEO Tomi Pienimäki. It is unclear at the moment how it was implemented throughout. It is believed that Jolla has adapted the technology Android Compatibility Layer OpenMobile World Wide, already used in the past by HP webOS and demonstrated on Tizen. However the reality is that, in the past, many people had some trouble installing the official version of WhatsApp for Android on their Jolla Sailfish smartphones. This was then solved by installing a hacked/modified version of WhatsApp, called Mitakuuluu. Unfortunately, after a few months Facebook banned several users of Mitakuuluu, as some users explained on this post. So, yes, if today you still have troubles installing Whatsapp for Android on your Jolla you can try Mitakuuluu (at your own risk of being banned), by following this great tutorial pulished on Linuxg.net.

However, to ensure its maximum compatibily, the new version of the operating system released by Jolla can be fully installed on Android smartphones. Supported models at present are few, but many others will come in the future. Jolla has indeed  recently announced that the mobile operating system Sailfish OS has reached the 1.0 release and is now ready for distribution worldwide. Jolla has also announced the availability of “Sailfish OS” as downloadable software on devices based on Android OS.

The operating system Jolla is a kind of mix between Android, the old Symbian and MeeGo. It offers many useful and interesting features that allow users to fully customize their own smartphones, but definitely is still a young OS and needs to be perfected. To facilitate its popularity, however, developers have permission to natively support Android applications: buying a smartphone Jolla, in fact, users can download and install all applications originally developed for Android, including those available in APK format and, obviously also Whatsapp !

By upgrading to version 1.0, those who want to try the new operating system Jolla Sailfish OS 1.0 does not necessarily have to buy a smartphone Jolla, but can use their own Android device to download, install and test it. This is the official Press Release issued by the owner of the company on the new Jolla Sailfish OS 1.0 compatibility with Android:

“We are very pleased to make this announcement. We have worked hard in close contact with our community of users to make simple and distinctive user experience smartphone Jolla and Sailfish OS. We believe that Jolla is currently a very good solution for all smartphone users.

Of course we do not stop and will continue to provide monthly software updates to devices using Jolla and Sailfish OS, ” said Marc Dillon, co-founder and COO Jolla.

“Users are now able to install their favorite Android app store, and choose from hundreds of thousands of applications available. In addition, the community of Sailfish OS, active and passionate, has already developed the main native applications for social media including Facebook, Twitter, WhatsApp and Foursquare, “ added the Finnish  CEO Tomi Pienimäki.

So let’s just hope that the full compatibility between Whatsapp and Jolla Sailfish will continue… forever !

Whatsapp Alternatives for Android (Whatsapp+ Plus & WhatsappMD) – What’s going on?

The axe of Whatsapp on alternative clientIt happens sometimes that applications of great success, tend to ignore the specific needs of their users and not to optimize their specs based on their users need. To overcome these problems some developers changes the original app and try to improve.

The same thing happened to Whatsapp, the famous instant messaging application, for some time now owned by Facebook Inc. The acquisition of this app generated many controversies and ironies, especially since Facebook was not very well seen in the field because of Android and his lack of care towards this social app for the Google OS (the situation really changed in the last few months). The fact is that even for Whatsapp, despite changes and improvements like Whatsapp Web and VoIP calls, new and better apps emerged: the most famous of them are Whatsapp + and WhatsappMD.

Both are dedicated to enhance the look. Especially WhatsappMD engages the enterprise users, to bring the service in a Material Design style (that is a redesigned new version of Android) counting on the fact that the app owner used the same graphics for a while.
A few weeks ago, those who used one of these apps, have been banned from the service for a few hours and were urged to abandon third-party app and download the original.

Today, the creator of WhatsappMD let us know that the lawyers of Whatsapp-Facebook have ordered him through a cease and desist to withdraw the application and a few days after they have blocked his Facebook account and Instagram (another application owned by Facebook). The developer replied to the lawyers that he would stop developing the application only if its accounts were restored, but received no acknowledgement.

The axe of Zuckerberg on WhatsApp that many feared is arriving. And quite arguable is the company’s position, a company that gains million dollar from two clients primarily used by Android-fan. Even more questionable at a time when open source is increasingly becoming an important part of the market. In this way, for a mere commercial motivation, the relationship with their users who just claim quality upgrades for the app could create a confrontation.

However (unfortunately), the law is by the side of the giant of the web and we can not help… but think: perhaps a company of such importance should invest a little more time on research rather than chasing little witches who always remain small.

Whatsapp for SONY Ericsson Vivaz

Whatsapp for Sony Ericsson VivazThe Sony Ericsson Vivaz uses an operation system that is different from the standard Android and Apple iOS.

It uses what is known as Symbian (S60 series 5th Edition). At one point in time, this was actually the most popular mobile operating system in the world, but there were so many variations it made it difficult for different mobile phone manufactures to maintain similar features as other phones. Android eventually took over and became the default operating system on most devices and it actually shares many of the same features and works in a similar manor as Symbian. So, if you are looking to install WhatsApp onto your Sony Ericsson Vivaz, you are thankfully in luck, as the application does have an option for functioning on your Symbian based device.

Now, there are two different options for installing the WhatsApp onto your mobile device. It really depends on the version of Symbian you are running. If you obtain your applications through Google Play, you can go through the Google Play store to download the app If you don’t, you need to use your Internet browser on the device.

When using Google Play, launch the application, then type in “Whatsapp”. After typing this up, select the application and wait for it to download Once it has finished downloading, select the icon that is now on your screen and follow the prompts to install the application. You do need to type in your mobile device’s phone number in order to complete the process. The device is then going to scan over your contact lists to see if other people have Whatsapp installed on their mobile device as well.

If you have a previous version of Symbian on your Sony Ericsson Vivaz, you need to download the application from the Internet. Open the Internet browser on your device, then head over to the WhatsApp.com website. When asked what sort of device you want to download the application to, select Nokia. The Nokia download is the Symbian download and it covers your Sony Ericsson Vivaz.

After the file has finished downloading, you need to open it up, which loads the installation wizard. This is similar to the Google Play option, in which you are going to be asked to fill in your telephone number in order to sync up everything. After you have completed this process, it is possible to begin using WhatsApp on your Sony Ericsson Vivaz.
