If you had to manually start the download of the latest version of WhatsApp, the iOS system of automatic updates could not be activated. Today around the world the service is used by 700 million people a month, with an exchange of 30 billion messages daily.

The data, made public by the company’s CEO Jan Koum, refer to January 2015 and are impressive, but very likely today they have already been overcome considering the constant expansion of WhatsApp all over the world.

As you may know, recently WhatsApp has undergone some upgrades that have introduced voice calls on its version for Android, iOS and BlackBerry 10, to the delight of the many users who use the service and that now, finally, have the possibility to make and receive VoIP calls. During the last hours, the portal Bild Zeitung reports that two German IT bloggers have discovered a detail that, initially, made Android users who use WhatsApp worried. As reported by the website Bild Zeitung, in the version 2.12.45 of WhatsApp for Android there is a function that automatically records the data of all voice calls.

The team of WhatsApp wanted to clarify that the automatic call recording is limited to version 2.12.45, which can only be downloaded via APK file and is not available for download via the official website of the app or via the Google Play Store. This version of WhatsApp has in fact been created with the sole purpose to record calls and assess its functioning. So, you were already planning to permanently uninstall the application of instant messaging to keep you safe from prying ears? It’s not necessary.

In fact from WhatsApp they have reassured all their users informing them that there is no privacy issue, the official application does not record any calls. If you accidentally or unknowingly have downloaded and installed the version 2.12.45 of WhatsApp, you can uninstall the application and download the latest version of the instant messaging service through the Google Play Store or via the official website WhatsApp.com.

But if, however, you still have doubts about the possibility that your calls can be automatically recorded, you can simply check it for yourself, accessing the folder WhatsApp Calls (through WhatsApp> Media> WhatsApp Calls). This is where all recorded WhatsApp calls are stored (here you could find three rows for each call. If you want to listen to them you have to decompress the file with the extension .gz, which is also the slightly heavier one). If the folder is empty, you have nothing to worry about.

How to verify WhatsApp verification code on your iPhone

How to verify WhatsApp verification code on your iPhoneWhen you talk about apps for instant messaging, WhatsApp is probably the first one that comes on your mind. With its 700 million active users each month, it has become one of the most widely used network in the world. With its record of users, the app is now more popular than Twitter and Instagram (which is also owned by Facebook).

WhatsApp, through your phone number, allows you to chat easily with your friends and family anywhere in the world. With WhatsApp you do not need to remember usernames, you do not also have to accept any friend requests. Consequently, the verification process that has been created is quite simple. In any case, if you incur in some problems verifying your number, stay calm and try to follow the following steps.

First of all, you better verify that you have installed the latest version of WhatsApp, which is available on the App Store. Enter your international phone number, including the country code (or select your country from the country list). You must omit any zeros or exit codes from your number. Now, check that your phone has Internet access with a good signal. To be sure, try opening a webpage. Check that your phone is not roaming. Another important step: check that your phone can receive international SMS messages. Check also that your device is not an unsupported one, such as iPod Touch or iPad. Be sure that your device is not jailbroken.

At this point, after you enter your phone number, wait, an SMS should be delivered to your phone. The message will contain a 6-digit verification code that you can enter in the verification screen in WhatsApp. The verification code is unique and changes every time you test a new number or device. It is important that you do not try to guess the verification code, otherwise too many failed attempts may delay the verification process.

If you do not receive your code via SMS, the automated system will tell you the code via a phone call. Wait exactly five minutes, and do not change or edit your number during this time. If after following all these steps you still have not received your code, you can try these other three steps: 1) Delete the WhatsApp application from your iPhone; 2) Reboot your device: first turn it off, then turn it back on; 3) Download the latest version of WhatsApp from the App Store.

WhatsApp: officially lauched Voice Calling for Blackberry 10

WhatsApp officially lauched Voice Calling for Blackberry 10BlackBerry 10 users have not been forgotten by WhatsApp. In fact, they can now use WhatsApp to make and receive calls. BlackBerry 10 is the third operating system chosen by WhatsApp to enable voice calls, while Windows Phone users still have to wait. After Android and iOS now, finally, it’s BlackBerry’s turn.

WhatsApp has enabled voice calls in the latest version of the app that is compatible with the operating system of the Canadian Company.  The new version of WhatsApp (2.12.1.2), which is downloadable from the digital store BlackBerry World, includes the possibility to call contacts using WhatsApp, without seeing the minutes on your calling plan being scaled; to make your calls will be used the cellular network (2G, 3G, 4G).

Windows Phone users still have to be patient a little bit, but the functionality is expected to arrive soon, maybe in a few days. Strangely, however, priority was given to BlackBerry 10 than Windows Phone, which has greater spread. However it is likely that the update for the BlackBerry has been considered more important, as it introduces a greater number of innovations. Besides Voice Calling, allowing you to use your Internet connection to make free VoIP calls, with version 2.12.1.2 you can now quickly search for messages, chat and contacts, simply touching Search from the menu.

It’s also been improved the font to match better the screen size. You can also find some new options, like “Add to Contacts” for your list of chat and information groups, the choice of custom ringtones for incoming calls, subdirectories for images, audio and video received, and counters to cards Favorites/Groups/Contacts. Moreover, it has been improved the support for BlackBerry Classic. Several unspecified bugs were finally fixed. Users who used the beta version must uninstall it before downloading the final version available on the BlackBerry World.

Any BlackBerry 10 device (Z10, Q10, Q5, Z30, Passport and Classic) supports this feature, which, thanks to the free calls, allows you to save further on the tariff plan. The spread of this platform, which was acquired by Facebook last year, has first caused the decline of text messages, and now also the classical calls may soon fall into disuse.

WhatsApp: you can now save your chats directly to Google Drive

whatsapp e google driveA development after another, and always something new for the users. We obviously speak of Whatsapp and the recent, strange partnership with Google. Now you can, in fact, perform automatic backups of conversations directly to Google Drive. Surely, hearing this news, the first thing that each of us must have thought is: “Goodbye privacy!”.

Well, certainly before today you can’t say that there was a lot more, but perhaps there was one thing that Google did not know about us: our activity on Whatsapp. There was in fact, not anymore! Certainly it is really convenient to be able to save our data on a server virtually inviolable as the one made available by Google – especially for those who often change their device.

After the recent update with the introduction of Material Design, and rumors of a few weeks ago, now Whatsapp with its latest release (the 2:12:45) introduces the backup of the chat – with related media files attachments.  The new feature of the messaging service most used in the world adds the missing link so far and, thanks to a new menu in the settings, and allows you to save your conversations (with related media files attachments), directly into the enormous database of Google Drive.  But we must point out that all this will not be readable from outside the application, because it will have an encrypted form of protection.

It is also important to stress out that this new feature is, at least for the moment, present only in the beta version of the application, which apk you can download from here, but we’re sure that the final version will be soon available in the Play Store.  The procedure is very simple. All you have to do to enable the new feature is to open Whatsapp, go to settings and then under “Settings Chat -> Backup chat”, choose to authorize your Google account, set the chronological frequency for automatic backup, the type of connectivity to use, and that’s it!.

The rest of the work will be performed automatically by the application.  However, it is important to know that you can not stop the backup once started; if you have received or sent many media files through the app, the time taken to WhatsApp to end the backup on Google Drive will be rather long.  You will surely appreciate the opportunity to perform automatic backups at different frequencies (daily, weekly or monthly).

Furthermore, data downloads can occur only when the device is in WiFi mode or also when you are under a mobile network: the user can choose this too. The backup will include, as you can also see from the size of uploaded files, even the media elements attached to conversations, such as photos, videos and audio recordings.

Jan Koum, CEO and co-founder of WhatsApp, announced on Facebook that the service is now used by 800 million users per month, 100 million more than in January. This result was achieved thanks also to the introduction of voice calls.
