New update for WhatsApp for Windows Phone: it is now available version 2.12.126.0

windows phone ultimi aggiornamentiA few days have passed since the last update of WhatsApp for Windows Phone was released, and yet a new updated version, the 2.12.126.0, is already available. Quite obviously, this last one is a minor update, which doesn’t bring new features and seems to have no change log (a detailed description of what changes).

This new version 2.12.126.0 should thus serve simply to fix minor bugs which were present in the previous version. But those who use WhatsApp with Windows Phone devices will surely be pleased to notice that WhatsApp developers are not neglecting them and are working to improve the app also on Windows Phone devices.

But which were the new functions for Windows Phone that WhatsApp recently introduced? In case you missed the last upgrade,  let’s see together those new features.

  • You can now share your location, exchange contacts email your chat history and set custom wallpapers;
  • you can now talk with two or more people at the same time. In fact, if you have a couple or more of your friends who are using WhatsApp, now you can join or create chat rooms;
  • Voice Calling Feature: finally even Windows Phone users will be able to call their WhatsApp contacts using this eagerly awaited function;
  • your mobile phone number is the ID on WhatsApp, so you don’t need anymore usernames and passwords.

But let’s leave aside for a moment updates and let’s talk about statistics. If you are passionate about statistics, you might find interesting a recent GlobalWebIndex survey which shows that among WhatsApp users, 73% of them use this famous instant messaging app with Android devices, 22% with iOS and 10% of them with Windows Phone.

What are the percentages obtained by other devices? It seems that BlackBerry OS users reach 4%, Symbian 3%, others as Firefox OS, Sailfish, Tizen, Ubuntu Touch reach 7%. These figures explain why WhatsApp developers work mainly on the Android version of the app, even if it seems that now they started to upgrade the application for other devices more often.

WhatsApp for Rooted Phones

Despite what some people think, it is possible to run WhatsApp on a rooted phone. Our research actually indicates that WhatsApp could run better on some rooted phones.
That means everybody needs to be real careful because many rooted phones have become infected with spyware or malware. If the phone has been rooted, there is a good chance it has also been hacked and some unsavory person has access to all the information on it.

whatsapp 15The term rooted comes from the root permissions, the basic software that controls the Android operating system. When a phone is rooted, the permissions have been changed to allow the phone’s owner to do more than is normally allowed. An example of this might be to install applications that are not normally allowed on a regular phone.

Many people use rooted smartphones because system settings can be changed and many more extra features added to the device. There are actually quite a few people walking around with rooted phones in their pocket that do not even realize it. Many organizations provide their employers with rooted Android devices in order to add custom applications.
Others will root devices to run programs such as spyware that they are not supposed to add. A child might add a messaging application against his or her parents’ permission for example.

How to Use WhatsApp on a Rooted Phone
Generally, there should be no problem running WhatsApp on a rooted phone, because it is a cross platform solution that runs on many different operating systems. The only time rooting can affect WhatsApp is if it has been specifically blocked from the phone for some reason.
You will first have to check to see if your phone has been rooted or not. Most rooted phones employ an application called the Super User, or SU. The best way to tell if there is a Super User installed on your program is to run a root checker app such as Root Checker Basic.

whatsapp 16This will automatically search your phone and tell you if there is a Super User installed or not. Root Checker Basic is free, and it is available from Google Play. If you have a Super User, your phone has probably been rooted.

How to Get Rid of Nefarious Super Users
Note: You should be careful if you find your phone has a Super User because there are some spyware programs, such as Truth Spy, which can be installed on rooted devices. These malicious apps can let somebody else read your WhatsApp Messages.

The best way to get rid of these devices is to use one of the many spyware removal apps available from Google Play. There are some excellent spyware removal apps out there, including Malwarebytes, SuperAntiSpyware, Spybot, and Spyware Blaster. All of these solutions are free and available through Google Play.

Rootkit Removers: Why You Need Them
An even worse menace is a rootkit, a collection of malicious apps designed to turn your phone against you. Some of these loathsome programs are even designed to target WhatsApp.
Fortunately, a wide variety of Rootkit Removers are available for free from Google Play. The best are Spyware Jedi, VirusImmune, Free AntiVirus 2015, and Root Toolkit for Android, all of which are available for free from Google Play.

whatsapp 17If you detect a Super User on your phone, you had best run both a spyware removal app and a rootkit remover. You will need to run two apps because you will need to get rid of both the spyware and the rootkit that installed it in the first place. If you do not get rid of the rootkit, it will simply install more malware.

What to Do if You Think Your Phone Has Been Rooted
The first and most important thing you can do if you think your phone has been rooted is to not use WhatsApp Messenger on the phone until you can use a spyware remover and a rootkit remover. The reason for this is simple; if you use WhatsApp on a rooted phone, a bad guy or gal can read your messages.

If you cannot run the removers right away and you need to check your messages, your best bet would be to use WhatsApp Web through a computer with a good antivirus program installed. Be careful, though, because if malware is on your phone, there’s a good chance it will try to infect your computer as well.

whatsapp 18Never assume that malware is not reading your messages just because WhatsApp is running perfectly. Many spyware programs are designed to run seamlessly with programs like WhatsApp. Some of them may even be using your camera and the microphone in your smartphone to spy on you.

How Malware Uses WhatsApp to Invade Your Phone
A wide variety of cyber predators, including fraudsters, are designing malware specifically designed to target WhatsApp, recent news articles indicate.
A common method is a fake voice message that invites you to try WhatsApp Free Voice Calling Feature. The problem, as Info-Security Magazine noted, is that there is no free WhatsApp Voice Calling Feature. Instead, the message is trying to get the phone user to go to a website that will download malware, including a rootkit to his or her phone.
whatsapp 19
This scam is apparently becoming even more sophisticated. Some of the voice messages or texts might even appear to come from a legitimate friend. For example, it might say that Joe wants you to try the new WhatsApp Free Calling feature. The danger is that the message did not come from your friend Joe; it came from Joe the hacker, who wants to introduce your phone to his new rootkit.

Phone users need to be very careful because the message and the fake website that spreads it appear to be real WhatsApp products. Another loathsome scam offers users the chance to spy on their friends and loved ones’ WhatsApp messages. The problem with that app is that the only person the applications spy on is the individual that ordered it.
Every WhatsApp user needs to take steps to product himself or herself because more and more malware targeting WhatsApp is appearing each day. That means occasionally running a rootkit remover or malware remover app on your phone is always a good idea for WhatsApp users.

Whatsapp for 32 Bit Pc

How to Run WhatsApp on a 32-Bit PC
The biggest complaint that many people have about messaging applications is that they cannot get their messages via their PC. WhatsApp has effectively solved this dilemma with WhatsApp Web, which is designed to allow users of the app to receive messages via their desktops.

Interestingly enough, WhatsApp Web seems to work best on a 32-bit PC, and it does work well with most versions of Windows. The current version is compatible with Windows 7, Windows 8, and the ever reliable Windows XP. Unfortunately, anecdotal evidence indicates that it does not work very well on Macs because of Apple’s proprietary operating system.
whatsapp 12
Basically, that means you can do everything you do through WhatsApp Web on 32-bit PCs that run on Windows, which would include laptops and tablets, including receiving pictures, videos, and audio messages. You can use WhatsApp Web on a Mac, but at this point, you will not be able to receive or send audios,6 videos or pictures through it.

How to Install WhatsApp Web on a 32-Bit Personal Computer
The easiest and best way to install WhatsApp Web on your PC is to use the download available from WhatsApp itself. Installing this download can be a little tricky, but most people should be to do it.

Here is a quick and dirty guide to accessing and installing WhatsApp through your PC.
Make sure that you have either Google’s Chrome Browser or Mozilla Firefox installed on your PC because these seem to work better with WhatsApp Web. Note: If you have one of these browsers installed, it might be a good idea to upgrade to the latest version because that may run WhatsApp better.

1) Go to this website on your browser.

2) Use WhatsApp on your phone to scan the code. If you are using a tablet, you may have to request the desktop site. Here is how to scan the code:

3) Launch WhatsApp on your phone.

4) Go to the settings menu and chose WhatsApp Web.

5) A QR reader will open on your phone; point this at the barcode on the PC screen.

whatsapp 13
6) If it works, this should automatically log you into WhatsApp Web through your PC.

7) You should see WhatsApp on the screen. Desktop notifications are supported. You will have to choose the Desktop Alerts and sounds that you want.

8) You can start new conversations and filter existing chats on the PC just like you can on your phone.

9) You should be able to start messaging all of your contacts as soon as WhatsApp Web appears on your PC screen.

10) As long as you access WhatsApp Web through Chrome or Firefox, you should be able to send and receive videos, audios, and pictures.

11) By using the options, you should be able to log into WhatsApp Web on any computer you repeat this process on.

12) If WhatsApp Web is working correctly, messages between the phone and the browser should be instantly synched.

The WhatsApp Tablet App
There is no such thing as an official WhatsApp tablet app because it is not authorized by WhatsApp Inc. Instead, this is the creation of other designers, but it does seem to work very well.

Before you try this app, you should try installing WhatsApp Web on your tablet. WhatsApp Web should work on your tablet because it is a cross-platform application. That means it is designed to work on a wide variety of devices, including tablets.

That being said, some users report that this app, which is available through Google Play, works better on tablets than the regular WhatsApp: Tablet Messenger for WhatsApp. Here is how to take advantage of it:
whatsapp 14
– Go to Google Play on your Android tablet or Chrome and search for Tablet Messenger for WhatsApp. Make sure you find the version created by developer GJC. On the app page, tap Accept.

– The app should access your location and photos/media/files and install on your tablet.

– Tap the app, and launch it.

– As with regular WhatsApp, you will have to scan the QR code on the tablet screen.

– If it works, you should be able to access your WhatsApp messages through the tablet.

– You should be able to use WhatsApp Messenger on your tablet just like you use it on your phone.

– If you want, you can turn notifications for WhatsApp on your tablet off, much like you turn them off through your phone. To do this, look for the WhatsApp logo and tap it. You can turn off all notifications or notifications from specific contacts that you may not want to talk to.

WhatsApp for PC Features
There are a lot of advantages to using WhatsApp on a 32-bit PC, including:
The service should be free provided you paid 99¢ to buy WhatsApp from Google Play or the App Store.

You will be able to send and receive SMS messages from all over the world on your PC without using up your phone’s data plans.

You will be to open audio messages and video clips that you receive through WhatsApp on your tablet or desktop. This makes it a lot easier to see the videos because the screen will be bigger. The video quality can also be a lot better. If you want, you will also be able to edit the video and audio messages you get on your tablet.

Not only will you be able to receive pictures and see them but you will also be able to edit them with solutions such as the ever popular Adobe Photoshop.

Another great advantage to accessing WhatsApp on your PC is that you will be able to print pictures and documents that you receive through WhatsApp Messenger. That makes it easy to create photos and share them with others.

As you can see, there are many reasons why you should consider adding WhatsApp to your PC. One note of warning here: If you are thinking of installing WhatsApp on your PC at work, make sure you get your boss’s permission first. Some workplaces have policies against adding messaging or texting programs to their computer systems.
If you cannot live without your messages, WhatsApp Web can make your life far more enjoyable.

Problem: I cannot call some of my contacts.

Probable Cause: Some of your contacts are blocked.

Easy Fix: WhatsApp contains a black list that lets you block contacts. To see if a contact is blocked, go to the last conversation with that person, go to the options button, and click view contact. It should tell you if the contact is blocked and give you the option to unblock it.

Where to Get Help with WhatsApp
Unfortunately, WhatsApp’s customer service is very limited, but there is a lot of good information about the application available online. The best place to start is WhatsApp’s own website. Beyond that, there are many online forums and articles that can show you how to deal with the most common problems. You can locate them by running a simple search for terms like WhatsApp Problems.

Whatsapp for Travel

Why WhatsApp Could Be the Best Messaging App for Travel
Staying in contact with friends and family without spending a fortune can be one of the hardest parts of international travel. That is why many seasoned travelers rely on WhatsApp, which can help travelers stay in touch at a low cost.

You need to be very careful when you are traveling because phone service providers charge up to 5¢ apiece for text messages. They often disguise the charge by offering a deal like 50 messages for $10; that sounds good until you realize that some people can send up to 50 messages a day.
whatsapp 5You will be charged every time you ask your friend to check on the plants at your apartment or send a picture to Mom back home. That means some travelers can end up spending up to $10 a day on messages or more; if your trip lasts two weeks, that adds up to $140.

To make matters worse, some companies offer minimum data plans that start charging more if you send more messages than in the plan. AT&T, a large American phone company, actually charges $30 per 120 megabytes of data added when you travel.

Message for Less with WhatsApp
Fortunately, nobody needs to pay those rates now that WhatsApp is available. Since WhatsApp uses little or no data, it can enable a person to send out a virtually unlimited number of messages on a basic data plan.
A person can send up to 22,000 messages using WhatsApp and a basic $30 120-megabyte data plan, Triphackr.com reported. Since WhatsApp only costs $1, that means you get 22,000 messages for $31.

You should be careful because this means just basic messages. If you send out a lot of photos or videos, you can quickly burn through your data plan. Yet if you are just sending texts, you should be able to send all the messages you want.

It Can Work on Almost Any Phone
More importantly, with WhatsApp, you can send messages through virtually any Internet connection. That means you will be able to message even if you buy a local phone or a SIM card with a data plan for your phone once you reach your destination.

Since WhatsApp works across platforms, it can work on a wide variety of phones, including Blackberries, iPhones, and Android devices. More importantly, WhatsApp is designed for the world’s most popular smartphone operating system, Google’s Android. That means it is more likely to work on that cheap phone you buy at your destination.

If you usually buy a new phone when you visit a different country, WhatsApp is definitely for you. Since it’s designed as a cross-platform solution, WhatsApp will work on almost all of the latest model smart phones.

Another Way to Use WhatsApp Abroad
There’s another reason why you should use WhatsApp when you travel abroad. You can use it off of your phone or virtually any computer with an Internet connection as long as you use WhatsApp Web.

That means you can use it to stay in touch through your laptop or tablet if you bring it along. You will need to download WhatsApp Web and install it in order to take advantage of this service.

WhatsApp in the Air
It can also work on Wi-Fi, which means you can use it from your phone by dropping into an Internet café or even on an airliner. One the biggest advantages WhatsApp provides travelers is that you can sometimes use it in the sky.
whatsapp 7
In the United States, around two thirds of the airlines now offer some sort of Wi-Fi service, PCMag reported. Two large American carriers, Southwest Airlines and Delta Airlines, now offer Wi-Fi on most of their flights. Another large U.S. carrier, United, now offers Wi-Fi on most of its international flights.
That means you should be able to use WhatsApp on the plane if Wi-Fi is available. If you are not sure if Wi-Fi is available, simply ask the flight attendant. He or she should be able to tell you if connectivity is available and how to connect to it.

It should be noted, however, that even the best Wi-Fi connections on planes do not always work because airliners move and sometimes move out of range of the signal. Carriers are spending a lot of money to upgrade Wi-Fi service, but the level of connectivity they offer is far from perfect.

Save Money with WhatsApp and Wi-Fi
On the ground, you can save money by staying at a hotel with Wi-Fi or taking advantage of Wi-Fi hotspots. You will save money because WhatsApp enables you to send messages for free as long as you have a direct Internet connection, such as the one provided by Wi-Fi.
You can also avoid higher data charges by waiting until you have a Wi-Fi connection available to send out bigger files, such as photos and videos. If you only send texts when you are not on Wi-Fi, you can conserve your data plan while you are traveling.

When you travel in the United States, you can often find free Wi-Fi at some restaurants, including the Starbucks coffee shops and many public libraries. Wi-Fi hotspots are also available in some public places such as shopping malls.
Another good suggestion is to ask about Wi-Fi when you check into a hotel or hostel. Many hotels offer it as an amenity to attract more guests.
whatsapp 6
Is It the Best Travel App Around?
Many observers, including Guardian writer Siraj Datoo, believe that WhatsApp is the best app for travelers because it lets her send out large numbers of texts for free no matter where she is.

If you travel and you like to text, you need to download WhatsApp. It could be the best possible solution available to today’s travelers. If you already use WhatsApp, you should be able to use it at no extra cost wherever you can find an Internet connection in the world. That means travelers should never have to pay to message again.
Staying connected is easier than ever before when you use WhatsApp. It is a perfect alternative to both expensive long distance calls and costly messages.

A new challenge for WhatsApp Web

whatsapp competitorsIt seems that WhatsApp Web has new competitors in sight. The newcomer is called Charge Messenger and has already raised funds for $1.7 million. The company in fact stated that $1.7 million had already been allocated to start the activity, besides a new web client to allow users to synchronize the chats on their Android and iOS devices on the desktop. Maybe someone recalls that at the beginning Charge Messenger was called Bolt, but the name has been changed into Charge Messenger to avoid confusion with the Instagram service One-Tap Photo.

But who is involved in this challenge? These are the names of some investors: Pelion Venture Partners, Atlas Venture,  Maiden Lane Ventures, Metamorphic Ventures, Cherubic Ventures, Craig Walker (founder of GrandCentral/Google Voice), John Wolthuis (cofounder of Twilio) and Matt Tanase (cofounder of Slicehost).

If you wonder how can you immediately recognise Charge Messenger among the many instant messaging services currently on the market (first of all WhatsApp), you’ll discover that it is quite easy. The first noticeable feature of Charge Messenger is “GIF Roulette”, which allows its users to add a random GIF to their chat simply by typing “+ gif” followed by a keyword (or phrase).

Animated GIF images are living a moment of incredible popularity on the Web, and even Mark Zuckerberg had to recognize their popularity and integrate them in the advertising pages of Facebook. It is still early to make prediction about this new startup, which is currently still a beta app. But it seems to be growing a lot in the Middle East, India and the United States.

Will this new app force WhatsApp Web to accellerate more improvements in its services? We know that recently the popular instant messaging service introduced a lot of updates, and now the system is available for Windows and Android Phones, BlackBerry and even for iPhone. But the competition is fierce, and we must not forget that in addition to Charge Messenger, Viber and Line also contend to WhatsApp a good share of the market.

WhatsApp version 2.12.250 is now available on Google Play Store

whatsapp for android su google playIt is finally available on Google Play Store the recent update that the many users of WhatsApp on Android devices were awaiting. This 2.12.250 update, as usual, was previously released as a beta version, and now it is available as a stable one. As always happens with new versions, the 2.12.250 brings several new features along with some bug fixes.

In addition to new emoticons (including the now famous “middle finger” emoji, which was hidden in the beta version, and the “Spock’s Vulcan salute”) and the possibility to choose the skin tone of emojis, you can now choose whether to mark a conversation as “unread” or as “read”. Next to the “unread” a green dot will be displayed together with a number next to the Chat tab.

Another important change introduced with this new version is the ability to customize notifications for individual contacts or groups. Furthermore you can set the “silent” mode, which allows you to mute sound notifications for individual contacts with a particularly useful feature that allows you to predefine the time period. With this new option you can mute the chat for eight hours, one week or a year, as you prefer.

To recap, these are the changes brought by this new version of WhatsApp for Android:

  • you can mark your chats as read or unread;
  • new chat custom notification settings and mute options;
  • you can lower the data usage used during WhatsApp calls by simply going in Settings > Chats and Calls;
  • when you receive a contact card you can now immediately message or save the contact if it’s on WhatsApp too;
  • new emoticons. Now you can even choose a different emoji colour by tapping and holding on it;
  • new language support: now WhatsApp supports Urdu and Bengali.

Unfortunately it seems that we still have to wait for the Google Drive Backup feature, even if WhatsApp has stated that they are working on it.
