WhatsApp for BlackBerry 10: the new beta 2.12.43.2 is now available

whatsapp for blackberry 10WhatsApp is a free instant messaging application for smartphones that allows you to chat with friends, family or colleagues who use Android, iPhone or Windows Phone devices. Currently this successful app is not used just to chat, but also to share instantly music, video and pictures with your contacts, all included in your flat fee. After several updates available mainly for Android users, finally it is now available a new beta for BlackBerry 10.

It seems that this new beta 2.12.43.2 fixes many of the bugs contained in the previous version. So let’s look in detail what changes and which are the improvements that  this new beta provides. Users of BlackBerry 10.3.2 will be surely glad to know that with this new beta WhatsApp is able to read Facebook contacts from the system’s address book. It goes without saying that this is a big improvement, as it solves the problem of the missing contacts.

Between the bugs that have been fixed there is the one concerning the unanswered incoming calls. In fact, so far, if you missed a call the pop-up was not showing it. Furthermore, now BlackBerry users will be happy to know that finally the bug that caused the first message sent in a new conversation to be shown only after a few seconds has been fixed. Since these improvements are currently contained just in the beta version 2.12.43.2, if you want to download this new version, you can do it only from the BlackBerry Beta Zone.

Once you are in BlackBerry Beta Zone, first of all you have to register, then you will be able to download and install WhatsApp 2.12.43.2 Beta version.  After that, you must accept terms and conditions and have your mobile phone number to be verified. After you have your phone number verified, you will be able to enter into your WhatsApp account.

What happened to the multi-ethnic emoji of WhatsApp?

emokiThe multi-ethnic emoji of WhatsApp are already very famous, and on the internet they are discussed quite often. Considering that WhatsApp is currently the most used instant messaging application, you can imagine how often the topic is discussed on various sites and blogs all over the world, and many users are eagerly awaiting this implementation.

Conversely many others are not aware about them, as these new emoticons have not yet been included into the official update on the Play Store. But why are these new emoji so discussed? The novelty consists in the addition of new options designed to give you the possibility to better express yourself. These new emojii in fact would include different shades of skin, women holding hands with other women and so on.

But right now you can only find on the Store the version 2.12.158, which does not have these new emoticons, while on the web version of the service they are already present. So, what happened? The multi-ethnic emoji were introduced just with the beta n. 2.12.161, while they were removed up to the the beta 2.12.176. But that was temporary.

In fact with the new beta 2.12.178 they have been reintroduced. Almost certainly it was a technical problem connected to the Android operating system, and probably they will be introduced permanently with a new update. iPhone users already have this service available and can choose the colour of their smilyes. So it seems that this time Apple has an advantage vs. Android.

But obviously also Android users hope that multi-ethnic emoji are finally introduced because they are extremely practical to express our moods, sometimes they are even better than words. In the meantime, if you use an Android device, while you wait that WhatsApp will provide this service also on Android rolling out a stable version available on the Play Store, you can start to use your fantasy with the beta version 2.12.178.

WhatsApp: more new features

whatsapp callsThe next update of WhatsApp for iOS will introduce many new features. This popular instant messaging app keeps on changing, and here we already discussed some of these new features (for example the “mark as unread” one), but not all of them. Let’s see together what is changing.

WhatsApp on Apple Watch
Yes, it seems that finally WhatsApp will also be available on Apple Whatch. But, and maybe now many of you will be disappointed, it will not be the real application (which probably will arrive later) but just an integration that will allow you to read your messages directly on your Apple Whatch and that will also allow you to open the app on your iPhone.

WhatsApp Web
Now iOS users can use WhatsApp via Web as Android users already do. And with the next update also those who use an iPhone will be able to use WhatsApp through their computer.

A new graphical interphace
After a long period without significant improvements, now it is available a new graphical user interface, which uses the new Material Design introduced by Google.

New fares
Even the fares will change. It seems in fact that now also iOS users will have to pay WhatsApp. Clearly the cost will be extremely low, perhaps 89 euro cent for one year, with the possibility of spending 2.69 for three years or 4.49 for five years. The convenience lies in not having to renew your subscription each year.

WhatsApp adds the options “mark as unread” and “like”
As we already mentioned, the next update includes the introduction of the “like” symbol and the possibility to archive a message as “unread”. It is not yet clear how it will be solved the problem of the double blue check marks that let the sender know that the message has been received and read.

New notification ringtones
Now you can mute your chats (so far you could do it only with group chats) and you can also customize the notification tones of each chat.

WhatsApp calling feature: new low data usage mode
Android, iOS and Windows Phone users can now use this much anticipated feature. The problem with WhatsApp Calling feature was that it consumed a lot, so it was necessary to enhance it and make it work even on low-band with 2G connections. It seems that WhatsApp is testing a new ‘Low Data Usage’ mode, which will clearly affect the quality of our calls.

WhatsApp for Android: the update introduces a new keyword search function

whatsapp updateIf you use WhatsApp with an Android device, you’ll be glad to know that the search function has been improved. In fact now you can search through all your conversations at once.

The popular instant messaging service owned by Facebook is currently used by hundreds of millions of people. The app is downloadable on iOS, Android, BlackBerry OS, Windows Phone and some Nokia devices. So, everyone has noticed that the Android platform is the one more often updated, and recently, with version 2.12.34, we have seen also adding Material Design between its new interfaces.

Well, in addition to this major update, an incredibly useful new feature has been added. This change allows you to search in all your conversations with a keyword, so you don’t have to go through one by one. This is definitely an important improvement, which will save us a lot of time.

In fact, so far the research could only be done on a specific string of text or a phrase in a single conversation. But now, once you choose a keyword, you can search through all your WhatsApp messages in one time. Isnt’ it fantastic? To use this option you just have to type the keyword in the search bar, and you can see all your chats containing that word. More or less what you already do with Google.

It goes without saying that this new function is extremely welcomed, considering how much we use WhatsApp not just with friends and family, but also for our job.But do you rememer that you can save your messages? If you don’t, dont worry, it’s simple. Just go to Settings > Chat Setting > Chat Backup. This function was added by WhatsApp with the 2.12.45 APK and allows you also to choose how often you want your messages to be saved.

WhatsApp adds some new features to its Web client

whatsapp web aggiornamentiAs you surely know, now WhatsApp allows you to send messages directly from your PC through an internet browser. This service is called WhatsApp Web, and it uses the web client of WhatsApp.

Maybe you have already noticed that during the past few days WhatsApp Web has introduced some significant improvements. Thanks to these enhancements now the PC version of this popular instant messaging application is a little bit more similar to the apps designed for mobile devices. So, let’s have a look to these changes.

Your profile
Well, this is really a good news. With these changes your profile photo and status are now editable. In fact it has been added the possibility to change or insert the profile picture; furthermore you can change your profile status.

Chat
Probably you, as most of its users, use WhatsApp (and WhatsApp Web) mostly to chat with your friends and family. Now, one of the new options will allow you to delete an unwanted chat conversation.  Or, when you need it, it is also possible to archive a chat conversation. If  you want, there are also options that enable you to archive, mute and leave a group chat.

Chat Screen
Also the chat screen has been modified and new functions have been introduced. When you open the chat screen you will find that a red button has been added. This addition will allow you to delete a chat or exit from a group.

Thanks to these changes, now WhatsApp Web is certainly even more convenient to use, and certainly works better than the previous versions. All of these new features are already available on WhatsApp, and the users of the app will not have to do anything. It will be the app itself to take care of the updates from its server.

How to solve WhatsApp privacy issues: features that (maybe) you don’t know

whatsapp privacy 2Since most of us use WhatsApp, we would like to be able protect our privacy and avoid useless discussions with relatives, friends or colleagues. It seems indeed that this instant messaging app has given people an effective instrument of control. And if it wasn’t enough, recently we’ve discovered that WhatsApp is the worst app when it comes to privacy.

That’s what the Electronic Frontier Foundation has just declared in its last annual report (‘Who Has Your Back?’), which analyses the results of a research regarding the privacy of users of apps and services. So, we really don’t have a solution for this problem? Maybe not a proper one, but today what we can do is to give you some suggestions to protect your privacy on WhatsApp.

Some features of WhatsApp that (maybe) you do not know
Do you really know all the services that  WhatsApp provides you? There are some “secret” functions that can help you to protect your privacy and manage better your app.

1. How to hide Last Seen. Yes, it is possible to hide the timestamp which tells whether you are Online or when you were Last Seen. You just have to go to Settings > Account > Privacy > Last Seen Option. Tap on Who can see my personal Info and select whom you prefer to show the information (Everyone, My Contacts and Nobody).

2. How to block a contact. WhatsApp allows you to block unwanted users. You simply have to open the conversation with a contact you don’t want to chat anymore and click on Other and then Block. If you wish to block more than one contact, you have to go to Settings  > Account > Privacy >  Blocked. Once you are here tap the Add New button to add contacts to your Blocked list.

3. How to change your WhatsApp number. This option allows you to use the same WhatsApp account and to change the phone number. Open Settings > Account > Change number.

4. How to get a WhatsApp password. The app does not have any passwords built into it. You will find many apps which can help you get one, for example ChatLock+ or App Lock.

5. How to delete your WhatsApp account. It is very simple. You just have to go to Settings > Account > Delete Account.

6. Change the profile picture of a friend. If you want to change the profile picture of one of your friends, first of all you have to save an image of 561×561 pixel with the name of his telephone number. After that, you can move the new picture to Profile Picture Folder (which is situated in the SD of your device).

7. How to run multiple WhatsApp account. Also this procedure is extremely simple, you just have to download Switch Me (or using a dual sim phone)

WhatsApp for iPhone: iOS9 will bring new features

whatsapp per iphoneAlthough the new version of iOS (iOS9) is not yet official, there are already some rumours concerning some of its apps. Among them there is obviously WhatsApp, the popular instant messaging application owned by Facebook. What we can say for sure is that currently only a few people can use its new beta, but it seems that two versions of it will soon be released.

The first one will be an experimental one and it seems certain that it will contain some bugs, while it seems that the second version will include several interesting new features. For example, if you love taking pictures and sharing them with your contacts, you will have new functions which will allow you to edit images before sending them. And that’s not all: you will also have different options for shooting your pictures with the possibility to customize the background for each contact.

Another important change could also involve your WhatsApp archive. In fact the upgrade would enable you to handle it if the phone were to run out of storage. Through these updates WhatsApp will help us to identify the conversations that could create memory problems because containing many multimedial files, and will guide us in creating space on our device.

It should also be introduced the possibility to reply to messages directly from the notification, without opening WhatsApp. Furthermore, there should be also the possibility to customize the ringtones of the messages, so that you can assign to each contact a different tone.

And finally the most anticipated and interesting feature: the one for marking messages as unread. With this new feature (which you surely already use on your email) you can decide to ignore some messages without opening all conversations. Also, you can mark a message as unread just as a reminder to reply at another time.
