whatsapp logoWith its 900 million active users (Jan Koum, CEO and co-founder of WhatsApp, has stated that 1 million people a day sign up for WhatsApp’s services), it’s undeniable that the popularity of WhatsApp seems unstoppable. The reasons of this success are many, you well know them, as you also know that you can use the app from several platforms: iOS, Android, BlackBerry 10, Windows Phone or Nokia Symbian. The developers of WhatsApp work very hard to offer a good service and keeps improving the app. Just to give you an example, during the last weekend were released two beta versions: one for the Android platform and the other one for BlackBerry 10 Mobile OS. But how do they work? How can you download them in order to upgrade your device? Let’s see it together.

Well yes, there is another new APK for Android devices. Since most of the users of WhatsApp access this popular instant messaging app using the Android platform, it is quite obvious that WhatsApp developers pay a particular attention to its improvement. The result is that there are new updates every few days. All those releases often bring just bug fixes, and today’s new APK is no exception. In fact version 2.12.298 doesn’t introduce any new features. Just the installation file is a little bit different, having been reduced from 22.72MB to 19.38MB. Remember that this new Beta 2.12.298 is not a stable version, but just one to be tested, so you can’t download it from the Google Play Store but you will find it on the internet. As usual, to install it on your Android device, you have to go to Settings > Security and enable the Unknown Source. Alternatively, on the Google Play Store you can find the previous version 2.12.297.

Further more there are the usual bug fixes. As usual, being a Beta, to install this version 2.12.167.2 you have to be a member of the BlackBerry Beta Zone, so don’t look for it on the official app store of BlackBerry.

WhatsApp: how to free up space on your smartphone deleting old messages

whatsapp memoryWho does not use WhatsApp today? With its 900 million active users, we can safely say that WhatsApp is one of the most popular instant messaging applications in the world, used to exchange messages, pictures, video, or even to make phone calls. So, without even realizing it, we accumulate a lot of space in the memory of our smartphone, creating some problems (often at the wrong time). So, what can we do? Let’s see together how to free up space on our Android and iPhone devices.

For those who use Android
Maybe you don’t know it, but on Android devices such as Samsung, Motorola, Sony and many more, WhatsApp creates a compressed copy of the photos and videos that you send and receive, and store them in a folder that does not appear in the Gallery of your smartphone. To clean your phone from media files sent and received you simply need a generic file manager that works on Android, for example ES File Manager, or MiXPlorer. If you use a Samsung device it’s even easier because it contains a built-in app called “My Files”. Thanks to this app you don’t have to look for any third party file manager.

So, in order to create space on your smartphone, open the file manager and look for the WhatsApp folder. Once you’ve found it, you will find another folder called “Media”. At this point you have two options. The first one is to remove the folder. The second one is to open it and copy (or move) the files that you want to keep to another folder on your smartphone that is not contained in the WhatsApp folder. When you’re done, delete the “Media” folder.

For those who use an iPhone
On iPhone devices data are saved in the chat as well as in the phone. To create more space in the memory of the chat, you need to open WhatsApp, open the conversation with whom you have exchanged more video, photos and audio, and then press the contact’s name. Now select “Delete chat”. Don’t worry, deleting the chat does not imply abandoning the group chat. To delete files from the memory of the phone you need to open WhatsApp and go to “Chat Settings”. Now you have to desable the “Save media received”. Obviously, before you perform any of these tasks, you must remember to make back-ups of photos and videos that you want to keep.

WhatsApp for Samsung Galaxy Note 4: you can now download the new Beta 2.12.294

galaxy note 4Do you usually access WhatsApp using a tablet and you own a Samsung Galaxy Note 4? Well, today we have some interesting news to share with you. For those who use WhatsApp with this advanced tablet (even though the Galaxy Note 5 has already been released), it is already time to update their version of WhatsApp and download this last Beta 2.12.294.

To be honest this last update doesn’t bring any new features, but the good news is that it finally fixes some bugs. In addition, we can notice that there have been some performance improvements, and obviously that’s noteworthy. If we want to be optimistic, when a new beta version doesn’t introduce new feature it often means that developers are working on a new stable version ready for the Google Play Store. So, fingers crossed.

In this new version 2.12.294 ten files has been modified, but without any change log, consequently it is impossible for us to understand exactly which file has been deleted or added. Some changes involve also for the APK which has now 22.71 MB, that is 20KB more that the previous version. So, how can you download beta version 2.12.294.?

First of all you have to open your Galaxy Note 4 and enable the “Unknown Sources”, that you can find in Settings->Security. After that you need to go to whatsapp.com/android where you can find  this latest APK ready to be downloaded. Now save it and by simply tapping on it you can begin to install 2.12.294 version of WhatsApp. Quite easy, isn’t it?

If you still don’t have WhatsApp on your Galaxy Note 4 and you decide it is time to install this popular instant messaging app on your device, you can easily find it on the Google Play Store searching for “WhatsApp”. When you find it, just select it and touch the “Install” button and the installation of WhatsApp on your device will begin.

WhatsApp for Windows Phone: the new Beta version 2.12.142 has been released

windows phone new betaJust a few weeks ago we talked about the improvements available for those who use WhatsApp on Windows Phone devices, and  yet today, we have to talk already about another new Beta ready to be installed on your Windows Phone (now Windows 10 Mobile). What changes with this new version 2.12.142?

Unfortunately it seems we have to be patient since this new Beta doesn’t introduce any new features, but just brings the usual bug fixes and an improvement of the stability of the application (which however are not unimportant improvements when you need to use WhatsApp). So, despite some rumours about the release of the Video Calling feature, once again there is no confirmation coming from WhatsApp developers.

But we think that, considering the fierce competition between WhatsApp and the other popular messaging services (like Viber or Skype) it is reasonable to imagine that they are working on it. In the meantime you can still enjoy the other many benefits of WhatsApp, first of all sending messages for free (you simply need an internet connection).

Or sharing your photos and audio files with all your friends, colleagues or family. Considering the many features offered by WhatsApp and that you can use it with several other operating systems such as Android, BlackBerry 10, iOS, it doesn’t surprise us that now this instant messaging app has reached the incredible number of 900 million monthly users. An impressive number, isn’t it? Even better than Facebook’s own messenger service, which has “only” 700 million users.

But what if something occurs on your Windows Phone device and WhatsApp doesn’t work anymore? It could happen, so don’t panic. You can reinstall it  easily just following this simple procedure. Open the Start Screen and swipe from right to left. After that, scroll down to WhatsApp and long press on WhatsApp icon. From here select uninstall (yes, you have to uninstall it before installing a new version). At this point you have to open the Store and download the latest version. It’s not difficult, just follow the instructions on the screen and you’ll have the latest, working, version of WhatsApp installed on your device.

WhatsApp for Nokia Asha: version 2.13.8 is now available to be downloaded

whatsapp per symbianAnother update is available for WhatsApp users who access the popular instant messaging application via their Nokia Asha devices. Even if this new version 2.13.8 does not bring any new features, it contains a lot of bug fixes and, also, a particular attention was given to the application’s performance. This new version, which runs on Symbian S40, can be installed also on Nokia 3 and Nokia Asha devices.

But let’s see how to install it on your Nokia Asha. You can find version 2.13.8 available for the download on the Opera Mobile Store and you won’t have to struggle to much to install it on your device since the download is quite easy. So, let’s proceed step by step. First of all open the Opera Mobile Store. After that you have to search for WhatsApp and then you can choose to install/update (from the .jad file) the latest version of WhatsApp on your Nokia Asha. You simply have to follow the instructions provided.

As we said above, in this WhatsApp version you won’t find any new features. The lack of changes is well balanced by an improvement of stability and performance, that will surely be appreciated by all users. Once again, the Voice Calling feature is still missing, and for the moment there are no signs that Nokia Asha users will ever benefit of this function like their colleagues who use WhatsApp on Android, iOS, BlackBerry 10 and Windows Phone devices.

Luckily, even though Symbian is not a platform very used, WhatsApp don’t forget about Nokia users, and does its best to provide a well functioning version of WhatsApp. In fact it would be a shame being forced to change a device you love because it is not compatible with some apps. And we know how useful and important is WhatsApp nowadays to share your pictures an videos with friends and family. Not to mention the texts, which you can send, wherever and whenever, for free.
