A few weeks ago WhatsApp users were certainly very pleased to discover that a new native desktop client  of their favourite instant messaging app had just been released. What more can you do now? Thanks to this new desktop client, WhatsApp users who spend most of their day on their laptops or computer are now allowed to stay in touch with their family and friends, without using mobile phones.

Furthermore, unlike Whatsapp Web, you can use it even when the browser doesn’t work. But despite the great usefulness of WhatsApp for desktop, it seems that many people have not appreciated its aesthetics, especially compared to that of WhatsApp for Windows Phone. That’s why the same people who developed Facebook Messenger for desktop decided to create Whatsie. What is Whatsie?

This third-party app is not so different from WhatsApp’s desktop client, since it just customizes WhatsApp Web. The main difference, as we mentioned above, is that Whatsie can be used without the support of a browser such as Chrome, Firefox or Edge. At this point you might think that Whatsie works like Whatswrapp, the app that you can find in the Windows Store, but they are not exactly the same.

What can you do with Whatsie? First of all, you have the choice of 7 themes, and you can change them whenever you prefer. Then, of course, the app offers toast notifications and it can be placed on top of the Windows 10 notification bar. Furthermore, another option allows you to launch Whatsie on Startup.

Whatsie runs on Mac and Linux computers, and works also with OS X. Whatsie is even compatible with Debian, Ubuntu, Fedora CentOS and Red Hat. So, do you like Whatsie and wonder how to install it on your computer? You won’t find the app on the Windows Store app. To download it you need to go to the developers website.

Android users have an updated version of WhatsApp ready for download. With this latest beta we are now at version 2.16.102, with build number 451186. This new APK file works with all Android devices and weighs 28.31 MB. What changes with this new APK of WhatsApp for Android?

Three, the famous mobile giant, has in  fact just told its customers that sending MMS will be much more expensive in the near future, so the company suggests to its users to switch to WhatsApp or Skype to send photo or video messages.

Starting from the 13th of June, Three will charge 40p, up from 17p, for all MMS messages. The Company said that “Some phones, like older Samsung models, recognise emoticons or emojis as photos. They would automatically convert the SMS into a picture message,” adding that “There are other ways to send multimedia messages whilst keeping the costs at bay. Mobile applications are probably the most popular method. In fact some of them, like Skype are preloaded on most of our phones,” and stating also that “all of our tariffs include internet allowance so using applications like Skype, Whatsapp, Facebook Messenger or Viber to name a few, for sending MMS will use the data included in your package.“

Even if Nokia users aren’t as many as those who use the Android platform, WhatsApp developers don’t ignore them and keep releasing updates for Nokia devices. So today we’ll see what changes with the latest 2.16.38 version of WhatsApp for Nokia S60. To be honest this latest version doesn’t bring any major changes, but certainly comes with bug fixes and performance improvements. Furthermore you can notice minor changes to the UI.

This latest 2.16.38 version of WhatsApp for Nokia S60 devices weighs about 5.5. MB, and is downloadable from the WhatsApp download page for Nokia S60 devices. It’s quite easy to install this new file on your Nokia device, you just have to download it into your phone and follow the instructions. Obviously, in order to complete the download without any problems or interruptions, it is essential that you have a stable internet connection.

Furthermore, remember that this latest version of WhatsApp for Nokia devices runs on Nokia S60 (3rd edition or 5th edition), Symbian^3, Symbian Anna and Symbian Belle Operating System. If you regularly use WhatsApp, you will certainly agree that one of the best things that we can say about the app is that it’s extremely easy to install and update. But sometimes Symbian S60 and Symbian S40 users may have some problems with the app and incur in error messages. How can you solve them? Don’t panic. First of all, the Facebook-owned instant messaging app have a product support team that you can contact through Facebook (obviously) or Twitter, or sending an email at [email protected].

But perhaps the problem that you are encountering it’s not that difficult, and you can try to solve it by yourself. For example, our beloved WhatsApp is used especially in Brazil, Mexico, Russia, India, many South American countries, Europe, Asia, Africa and Oceania. Facebook’s Messenger is used in Canada, Australia and the U.S. According to SimilarWeb, Viber is very popular in Eastern Europe, Iraq, Libya and Sri Lanka.

Do you think this scenario will be the same in five years? The situation in the instant messaging field makes you believe that little will change, but obviously we have to wait and see what will happen.

After just a couple of weeks from the release of the last Beta, another updated Beta version of WhatsApp for Windows Phone is available. This new 2.16.62 version of WhatsApp for Windows Phone not only brings the usual bug fixes and performance improvements, but adds some nice and interesting changes. For example the call button, that now has a new icon.  This button, which with the Beta version 2.16.44 had been moved on the top right corner of the screen, has been also further revamped and now shows a new look.

And that’s not all. Beta version 2.16.62 adds also new options that allow users to listen to voice notes in call mode. For the moment this latest Beta of WhatsApp for Windows Phone is available only to those users who have access to the private beta testing program, but we are confident that these new features will soon be released in a stable version. These last two Betas have significantly improved the performance of WhatsApp on Windows Phone devices, and, along with a better look, the app now allows users even to send and receive documents. And certainly much more will come.

We already know that WhatsApp has become the most popular instant messaging app in the world, and its one billion monthly active users confirm the growing success of the Facebook-owned app. The competition is tough, and the battle with other messaging services such as Telegram and Viber is fierce. And it seems that Google wants to play its role in the field of instant messaging, launching a brand new chat service.

This new service is called Allo, and it seems to be Google reply  to WhatsApp and Facebook Messenger. Using Google’s words, Allo “lets you communicate with anyone in your phonebook—both Android and iOS.”  The service will use a massive database created thanks to Google’s dominant Internet search engine and will predict automatically how you might want to respond to a text and will also collect other information that could be relevant to an ongoing chat.

The announcement was given on Wednesday, during the annual developers conference that this year was held not far from Google’s headquarters in California. There’s no doubt that Google is a giant, but after all the recent improvements it’s evident that WhatsApp intends to stay on top.

WhatsApp developers often release (nearly every day) updated versions of this popular instant messaging app, mostly for the Android platform, but also iPhones, Windows Phones, BlackBerry and Nokia devices are regularly updated, for the joy of their many users all over the world. And in fact today we will talk about a new updated version of WhatsApp, this time for Nokia, Nokia Belle and Symbian S60 devices.

This new version, number 2.16.29, has just been released and, unfortunately, doesn’t bring any new features, just minor updates. The installation file (.sis) of this latest version of WhatsApp for Nokia and Symbian devices has been increased by 3KB and has 8 modified files. These 8 modified files are connected to the application’s executable and libraries.

As we said above, unfortunately, this time you won’t find any new files, and nothing has been deleted as well. What more? Let’s see. Bad news: this latest 2.16.29 doesn’t add new emojis. Good news: you are now able to see them when one of your contacts sends them to you. And that’s a considerable improvement, isn’t it?

Furthermore, in case you don’t remember (but we think it’s unlikely), end-to-end encryption has been enabled also on Nokia devices, so the privacy of your messages has been further secured. We know that this option generated a huge debate, and is still criticized. But most of the users seem to appreciate it, and that’s important to the owners of WhatsApp. Last but not least, don’t forget that now you will be able to configure notifications simply going to Settings > General > Security.

You can install this latest 2.16.29 version of WhatsApp easily, and we really recommend you to do it. You can download manually this last .sis (installation) file going to whatsapp.com/nokia. Or you can always check on your device itself if there is a new version of WhatsApp available. You just have to open the app and go to Options > Settings > Update.
